Shooting Sports Association of Ireland
Promoting the safe enjoyment of Shooting Sports

Welcome to the SSAI website
The Shooting Sports Association of Ireland (SSAI), is a federation of shooting organisations, each controlling and organising their own particular disciplines. The SSAI is recognised by the Government as the National Governing Body for Shooting in Ireland. The aims of the association are to promote and educate people in the safe handling of firearms and enjoyment of shooting as a sport. The Association also works to develop and expand the sport in all its aspects.

The SSAI work with the backing and assistance of the Irish Sports Council. We are very grateful for their support.

FCP Information document for Shooters
Attached is the information briefing document from the combined Shooting groups on the Firearms Consultative Panel. Following advices from the Attorney General that Statutory Instruments giving effect to the firearm amendments must apply to full sections of the Act and not to part sections, it is now the case that some of the planned role out of the new firearms code will be delayed at least until the enactment of the Firearms Miscellaneous Bill which is due for publication on July 3rd under the Programme for Government. As a result, the intended classification of restricted firearms will not now be applied on May 1st 2008 as planned.
